On March 18, 1965, Effie MacDonald, a chambermaid at the Bangor House, was brutally raped and strangled. The murder has never been solved, and is listed as the oldest unsolved homicide on the State of Maine's list.
The question remains - who killed Effie MacDonald?
I am a nephew of the murder victim, Effie (Terrill) MacDonald. Although young at the time, I recall the night that the call was received that my aunt had been murdered, and know the impact it had on my family. The topic of the murder was taboo for many years. However, now that I am involved in researching my family history, this remains a chapter in that book that needs some closure.
